Toastmasters Qatar Division held a mega event christened as DETAC 2010 with the theme “Finding A True Voice” at Marriott Hotel on 7th May 2010. The chief guest was Srilankan Ambassador to Qatar H. E. Vijayasiri Padukkage with 300 toastmasters in attendance in a daylong event that comprised of contests, keynote speeches &, award function.
Division E consisting of 900 toastmaster members is the second largest in the Gulf with 6 Areas and 35 Clubs. There were 24 public speaking champions in four category of competitions were vying for titles. The winners who will represent Qatar in the Gulf competitions on 20-22 May at Kuwait are Martin Francis for table topics, Ashfaque Deshmukh for humorous, Bob William Goy for Evaluation and the crème de la crème international speech Koka Prasad who achieved hat trick this year. Prasad’s speech on "Fear" exemplified that one should master every aspect of public speaking skill in order to become a champion and should partake extreme perseverance, goal orientation and untiring effort
Qatar Falcon awards that recognizes outstanding performances received great impetus this year with largest ever participation in various categories. This indicated increased awareness, trust, perceived value for the recognition and more than anything else so many clubs executive committee’s conviction that they have excelled in delivering value. Krishna Kumar, Sameer Hassan Moosa, Renahan V and Haroon Rashid were the catalysts for the clarion call. The astounding winners were Professional TM with 4 and Qatar TM with 3 medallions. Dukhan, ICC Eves, Qtel and Doha were awarded one each. The best Area Governor award went to Sarma Anupindi.
Dukhan Toastmasters Vice president Public Relations & Dukhan Gavels club counselor Nasimudheen A. Hameed has been awarded “Toastmaster of the Year Award –2010” He has been honored for his outstanding contribution during the year 2009—2010 were he was the coordinator for first Youth leadership program conducted in Dukhan and took outstanding initiative to launch Dukhan Gavels club. He is the one who designed & launched colorful website for Dukhan Toastmasters, “dukhantoastmasters.org”.
